I thought a lot of you might like this website. They sell all kind of pretty victorian inspired things.

Also, this is a band I highly recommend. Her voice is so beautiful and ethereal.

Fr. Michael Sinnot Has Just Been Released
[info]lucister wrote in [info]catholicism
For all who care, Fr. Michael Sinnot, the Irish Columban Missionary Priest kidnapped in Pagadian City Zamboanga, Philippines was released without paying ransom allegedly. He is very blessed for 2 days before, a principal kidnapped in Basilan (same island) was beheaded for failing to pay the ransom. But it was a different group that kidnapped him.
For all who prayed for Fr. Mick, thank you very much and God bless you!

Pet of the Month

Are the special Pet of the Month prizes only given to regular size Webkinz as opposed to Lil'Kinz? 'Cause I just adopted a Pug Lil'Kinz and only appear to have gotten the regular stuff. (I have yet to adopt an offical "Pet of the Month".)

Forest Lawn is one of the oldest, largest, and most beautiful cemetaries in Nebraska (A close second to Wyuka.) Last Sunday, I spent several gorgeous hours there.

Rules for Eucharistic Adoration
[info]restless_friar wrote in [info]catholicism
Can someone point me to an official Church document referencing the rules for Eucharistic Adoration, specifically regarding whether or not someone needs to be physically present in the chapel at all times? If there are any special rules for a dedicated chapel such as a monastery, where only religious community members have access, that would be particularly relevant.

The reason I'm asking is because for Advent my community has been discussing doing Holy Hour, and I had suggested that perhaps we leave the Eucharist exposed overnight and until the following evening. My suggestion was objected to on the grounds that we would need someone to be present in the chapel at all times. While I understand this to be typical practice for purposes of security of the Eucharist, I wasn't sure that it was an actual rule of the Church. Again, I'm looking for a specific reference to an official Church document, if anyone is able to point me in that direction. Thanks!

"The Three Graces", Wall Frieze, Pompeii, circa 60 AD
[info]irochka5 wrote in [info]art_vintage

The three graces, all sisters, are the daughters of Zeus and Euryeome or Hera. (Zeus, as you'll recall, had a serious problem keeping it under his toga.) As the attendent goddesses to Aphrodite — the goddess of love — the three were all that is grace and beauty personified. Each represents a different facet of the goddess: Aglaca, splendor; Euphrosyne, joyfulness; and Thalia, abundance.

Since someone else had luck identifying a painting, I'll try for mine.

Two geisha are walking together and one has an umbrella. It's called "The Promenade" and was painted by a British painter around 1910.

I flipped through a book at a market stall, didn't make a note of the artists name and then when I came back the book was gone! Donthca hate that?

Dear all,
Could anyone recommend me some good books on modern Catholicism - those that cover, say, last 30 years? Something reliable, written by a journalist/sociologist/historian (not another "What's it like to be a Catholic" book for kids and young adults) on what the life of modern Catholics in different countries consists of; how the Church's mission is delivered nowadays; etc.
Works of catholic and non-catholic authors are both welcome.
Thank you!

Dear people of laceandflora,

My aunt is opening her own jewelry store and she needs a name.

"I make from ballroom glitz to very earthy things."

I was wondering if any of you could help.

But why?
[info]climbfall78 wrote in [info]catholicism
Okay, I've been looking all over for the answer but I can't find it.

In the light of the recent execution of the DC Sniper (which as of my writing of this is set to happen in a half hour), I've been thinking a lot a about the death penalty. I know that the Church is against it but I was never told exactly why. All I was told in RCIA is that the Church is against the death penalty.

Could someone tell me exactly where it says in the Bible that it is wrong? I can't seem to find it.

Of course I've been against capital punishment even before I became Catholic. I always thought it was wrong because the way the person who is receiving the death penalty is an easier way to die than that of the person or people he (it's usually a man, so I say "he") has been killed.

Oh and this is not a troll....this is just someone who never got the answer and wants to know why.
